“C’est Qui La Boss” is a media brand owned by the DC Company group (parent company of Konbini media), with a highly engaged community focused on social issues, careers, personal development and professional life. The challenge in this project was: How can we transform a media audience into a truly engaged community?
The objective of the project: move from a “social media” audience to a proprietary community, structured around:
- of a private social network,
- of a recurring subscription model,
- of a mobile application to maintain daily contact.
We have designed a comprehensive community platform based on WordPress, BuddyBoss, WooCommerce Subscriptions, Stripe... and a React Native mobile application published on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Project objectives
- Create a private social network reserved for members.
- Implement a paid subscription system with recurring payments (Stripe).
- Offer an experience rich community : groups, feed, profiles, messages, exclusive content.
- Deploy a native mobile application (React Native) connected to the same backend as the website, available on iOS and Android.
- Provide the editorial team and community team with a simple back office to manage members, content, and interactions.
Our approach
1. Framework: community, roles and member journeys
We first worked on the community vision :
- What types of members? (new, committed, ambassadors, etc.)
- What roles? (administrators, moderators, contributors, premium members, etc.)
- Which key routes :
- Discover the offer,
- Registration/subscription,
- Onboarding into the community,
- Participation (posts, comments, reactions),
- Access to premium content (articles, live events, events, resources, etc.).
This framework enabled us to design a social network that truly supports content and monetisation strategy, and not just another “forum”.
2. WordPress base + BuddyBoss for the social network
For the community hub, we built the platform on:
- WordPress as a CMS base,
- BuddyBoss for the “social network” layer:
- detailed user profiles,
- news feed,
- thematic groups,
- mentions, reactions, comments,
- private messaging.
We have customised:
- the member profiles (additional fields, bio, interests, etc.),
- the groups (public, private, subscribers only),
- the permissions (what each role can see and do).
Objective: one lively community space, where members want to return.
3. Paid subscriptions & Stripe (WooCommerce Subscriptions)
The business model is based on a subscription system. We used:
- WooCommerce to manage the shop and customer accounts,
- WooCommerce Subscriptions for the recurring subscriptions,
- Stripe for payments.
Implementation:
- one or more subscription offers (monthly, yearly, etc.),
- one simplified purchasing process (offer page → shopping basket → payment → immediate access),
- automatic management:
- of renewals,
- of changes in supply (upgrade/downgrade),
- of payment failures,
- of email notifications.
Access rights to the community (private groups, premium content) are automatically linked subscription status.
4. Visual experience & key pages with Elementor
We used Elementor to build strategic pages:
- Home page :
- presentation of the concept,
- community benefits,
- highlighting testimonials and exclusive content,
- clear explanation of the subscription offer.
- Subscription sales pages :
- comparison of packages,
- Frequently Asked Questions,
- reassurance elements (secure payment, cancellation, terms and conditions, etc.).
- Editorial pages (articles, resources, replays, etc.) structured for SEO and engagement.
The objective is that all marketing and content easily editable by teams, without depending on development.
5. React Native mobile application (iOS & Android)
To maximise engagement and create a daily connection with the community, we have developed a mobile application in React Native, published:
- on Apple App Store (iOS),
- on Google Play Store (Android).
The application connects to the same WordPress/BuddyBoss backend that the site:
- Single sign-on : a single member account for both the website and the app.
- Real-time synchronisation :
- profile,
- active subscriptions,
- participation in groups,
- news feed,
- messages.
Main features of the app:
- Consultation of the news feed and groups.
- Posting, commenting, reacting.
- Access to exclusive content (depending on subscription level).
- Member profile management.
- Notifications to keep members informed (new content, group activity, interactions).
Result: a consistent community experience between the web and mobile, with the flexibility of React Native to evolve features.
6. Technical architecture & API
To enable communication between the website and the mobile app, we have:
- Exploited and extended the’WordPress REST API to exhibit:
- user data,
- the contents,
- community interactions.
- Added custom endpoints when necessary (business logic specific to the community and subscriptions).
- Secure exchanges (tokenisation, role management, API-side access rights control).
The whole forms a single back-end architecture, consumed:
- by the website (BuddyBoss interface + Elementor templates),
- by the’React Native mobile application.
